Ben Simmons: 'I Just Want To Be The Number One Player'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ben Simmons has not worked out for any NBA team and did not attend the NBA draft lottery.

Last month, there was some speculation that he did not want to play for the 76ers.

However, Simmons -- who was on an Australian radio station The Grill 104.9 -- says he wants to be the No. 1 overall pick.

"For me, I just want to be the number one player," the Australia native said. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to go first, so if I go first it's awesome. I've worked so far to just be that and go to a team like that. So, wherever I go I'll be lucky to be picked up."

The Sixers worked out Duke standout Brandon Ingram on Monday, but general manager Bryan Colangelo indicated that Simmons is not expected to do so.

"His agent has decided that is the process they are undertaking," Colangelo said via NJ.com. "Why don't you call [Simmons' agent] Rich Paul and ask him. It has nothing to do with us, and nothing to do with Philadelphia. Everybody goes about it a little differently. Sometimes players decide to workout, sometimes they decide not to workout."
