Police Identify Ryan Howard Bottle Thrower, Announce Disorderly Conduct

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have finally identified the man who threw a beer bottle at Ryan Howard last week. Howard was not struck with the bottle and did not receive any injuries.

On Friday, June 10, 2016, Sidney Smith, 21 year-old male from Wilmington, Delaware turned himself in. He was issued a Summary Citation for Disorderly Conduct and released.

"My reaction was that I thought it was a shame," Phillies general manager Matt Klentak told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday. "That should never happen, candidly. My understand -- it's not really the Phillies that are investigating it, it's the police that are investigating it. But my understanding is, late last week -- maybe Friday -- I know they have identified the bottle thrower and I believe they've issued a citation. They've done something to penalize him. It's really outside of the Phillies hands, it's really more of a police department matter."

"I don't care how bad somebody thinks I'm playing," Howard said of the incident last week. "It's just uncalled for. You shouldn't do it. You shouldn't do it period. Nobody deserves that. It's not warranted. It doesn't make any sense."
