Native American Heritage To Be Showcased At Salem County Fairgrounds
WOODSTOWN, NJ (CBS) -– American Indian heritage will be on display for the public to enjoy this weekend as the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation hosts their annual Pow Wow at the Salem County Fairgrounds.
"Pow Wows are set up so we can teach non-Indians our way of life," says Lenape Chief Mark Gould.
The Pow Wow will consist of traditional dance, music, food and crafts.
"You'll get to experience great culture, you'll actually get to come out and dance with us. There's a point in the Pow Wow where invite the spectators out so you'll get to be hand in hand with native people," says Pow Wow chairperson Lia Gould.
Gould says all people are welcome to attend.
The celebration comes despite the fact the Lenape are engaged in a legal battle with the State of New Jersey for official recognition.
Gates open each day at 10 am and the cost is $5 per person.
