SEPTA Bus Strikes 2 Women, 1 Dies From Her Injuries

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two pedestrians were transported to the hospital after officials say they were struck by a SEPTA bus in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia on Thursday, June 9. Authorities say one of the victims died as a result of their injuries.

According to SEPTA officials the incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and E Gravers Lane.

That's where a route L SEPTA bus reportedly came in contact with the victims.

Authorities say the two victims were a 76-year-old woman and a 50-year-old woman.

Officials say the bus was traveling southbound on Germantown Avenue. While making a left turn onto Gravers, the bus hit the two women as they walked in the crosswalk.

Authorities say the bus hit them with its front left tire.

Both victims were taken to Einstein Medical Center. The 76-year-old woman was listed in critical condition after suffering broken ribs and bleeding on the brain, according to officials. She was later identified as Elizabeth O'Malley and authorities say she later died as a result of the injuries.

The 50-year-old victim was listed in stable condition and suffered injuries to her left hand and left knee.

No other injuries were reported in this incident.

Police announced on Tuesday, that this investigation continues.
