Vandals Strike Philly Neighborhood, Smash Dozens Of Car Windows

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Damaged cars and shattered glass was the scene in one Philadelphia neighborhood as the residents there had a rude awakening.

Dozens of cars were left damaged in Fishtown.

It would appear the vandals drove up Memphis St., making quick work out of smashing out one window after the other. The trail of random destruction spanned a couple of blocks. Neighbors say it happened around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Bill Kurtz is replacing his car window for the second time in seven months. "I had my driver side window shot out right before Thanksgiving," he said.

Meg Dooley spent around $100 to replace her window and she was surprised that that was all she was out.

"So, my first thought was oh my god, they probably stole something, but I think they were just doing it for fun, or to be jerks," she said.

Many are now left to wonder if the car smashing vandals will strike again.

Some residents had to pull out tarps to make sure that their cars didn't get soaked on the inside as a result of the Wednesday's rain. In the meantime, police are using surveillance video to try to find out who is responsible.
