PFF Ranks Eagles' Roster In NFL's Top 5

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Vegas to Pro Football Focus: '"Say what?"

While Bovada LV gave the Eagles 50-1 odds to win the 2017 Super Bowl , tied for fifth-longest in the NFL, Pro Football Focus ranked their roster among the NFL's best.

For the third straight year (2014, 2015), PFF ranked all 32 NFL rosters on ESPN Insider, and the Eagles -- shockingly -- came in at 5th. The only teams with better rosters than the Eagles? The Patriots, the Packers, the Panthers, and the Steelers. All Super Bowl favorites.

The top-five players on Philadelphia's roster, according to PFF, are: Fletcher Cox, Jason Peters, Malcolm Jenkins, Brandon Graham, and Sam Bradford. Monson  called Zach Ertz, Jordan Matthews, and Darren Sproles "dangerous weapons" on offense.

PFF's Sam Monson on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show:

Last year, PFF said the Eagles' roster was sixth-best in the NFL, but the team finished just 7-9 and Chip Kelly was fired before the final game of the season. By keeping the Eagles in the top-five, PFF is sticking to their guns, and indictment on Kelly and his coaching style.

"Wins is more than just the talent of the roster," Monson told the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show. "It's scheme, it's coaching, it's a whole bunch of other things. And whether you have talent in the right spots. Any team with an All-Pro quarterback is going to have more wins than overall talent of the roster would deserve. And on the flip side, even the extremely talented rosters may not win that many games if they don't have the quarterback.

"And I think the Eagles are somewhere in the middle, in that Sam Bradford may not be an All-Pro, but he actually played pretty well last year and when he's on the field I think he's actually a pretty good quarterback."

Now, Doug Pederson and his coaching staff will have a lot of the same players to work with.
