Jason Kelce On Brandon Brooks: 'Size, Athleticism Like Jason Peters'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Jason Kelce needs to get his mojo back.

After a Pro Bowl season in 2014, Kelce struggled last season --- along with the Eagles' entire offensive line -- in 2015. Bad snaps, false starts, egregious holds, and a decline in production.

Despite the release of guards Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis prior to the 2015 season, Kelce took full responsibility for his poor play.

This offseason, the Eagles signed 26-year-old veteran, 6-5, 335-pound guard Brandon Brooks.

"I think there's no doubt that Brandon Brooks next to me is going to make me, at least appear to be, a better player," Kelce admitted Friday on the 94WIP Morning Show. "He's one of the better guards in the NFL. Obviously, I'm biased because he's on our team now. But I think that just the size that he has, combined with the athleticism he has, I haven't seen that combination since working with, my first time seeing [eight-time Pro Bowler offensive tackle] Jason Peters. He's gonna add a lot to our offensive line. I'm really excited to get to work with him."

Even with Chip Kelly out and first-year head coach Doug Pederson with an entirely new staff in, Kelce -- entering season number six -- is practicing his normal offseason approach.

"It's a different system and a different offense," Kelce said. "So there are some things I'm doing differently in the weight room and what not to try and get ready, but for the most part you still gotta approach each and every day with the same mentality of you're coming to work and you're working to get better. And I think that's something that the vast majority of good players in this NFL approach their daily routine as. Every day is an opportunity to get better. At some time here, I'm 28 years old, at some time I'm gonna start declining here because of my age. I gotta continue to improve my technique, my fundamentals -- get some little veteran techniques here picked up to help me out and I think that as a I go along here I just want to get better each and every day and that's the goal."
