Police: Off-Duty Officer Fires At & Chases 2 Suspected Burglars From His Home

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have announced that a shooting took place on Tuesday involving an off-duty police officer. Officials say that two intruders were inside the officer's home and that he fired his weapon upon finding them inside the residence.

Police say that an off-duty officer entered his home on the 3300 block of Wellington Street on Tuesday at 1:12 p.m. When he walked through the front door, officials say he noticed that his television was not there.

He observed that his kitchen door was ajar and that his kitchen window was open.

Authorities say the officer heard movement and voices coming from the basement and that he approached the basement with his weapon drawn, announcing "police."

Police say one of the intruders charged up the stairs at the officer and the officer claims that the man had a dark metal object in his hand. The officer shot at the intruder and officials say he missed.

The intruder fell down the steps. Police say the two intruders then fled out of the basement door and the officer chased after him. Police say the officer saw a green/blue van pull away from the house at a high rate of speed.

The first intruder was taken into custody on the 3200 block of Wellington Street and the second intruder was taken into custody at Brighton and Hawthrone Streets by an off-duty detective who witnessed the pursuit.

Police identified the first intruder as Ricky "Ameen" Mosley, 37, and the second as Lynel Henry, 22.

Both men have been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, flight to avoid persecution, theft and other related offenses.
