Local Breweries Prepare For Upcoming Philly Beer Week

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than a hundred cities now hold beer week celebrations and they can thank Philadelphia for that. The city where the ten-day festival was born is getting ready for Beer Week 9.

From food pairings to pub crawls and tap takeovers, you'll find an endless amount of beer-related events from June 3rd to the 12th. Beer week officially begins Friday evening at 7 with the ceremonial opening tap at a new venue...The Filmore. They'll also be debuting a collaborative brew that was made in Belgium with help from Tom Kehoe of Yards Brewery.

"It's a monster of a beer, Dark, rich, adding things to the beer that I wouldn't of thought to add to a dark beer," Kehoe said. "It's called fire, flood and plague."

Sounds scary, but William Reed, owner of Johnny Brenda's and Standard Tap found nothing but sweet bliss at a recent preview.

"Frickin' delicious," Reed said. "I would never expect to ever hear Tom Kehoe say he was brewing a porter that had licorice and salt and it was a 9 and a half percent alcohol beer. This is a really unusual beer."
