PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities say a church van driver is dead following a hit-and-run in Kensington.

Police are now on the hunt for the suspect.

Officials say just after 10 p.m. Thursday, a dark-colored vehicle struck the 57-year-old victim and never stopped.

This happened in the area of Front and Diamond Streets.

Police say the victim had just dropped off church members for a meeting and was entering his vehicle's driver's side door when he was hit by a dark green or black mid-size car.

Authorities say he was dragged about 15 feet and left unconscious with trauma to his head and face. He later died at Temple Hospital.

Family members tell Eyewitness News the victim is Eliezer Leon.

His older brother says was a preacher and the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off of his back.

"You took away the life of a good man. Now you need to step up and face what you did."

Authorities say they may have some video surveillance from the area. Once they do catch the driver, police say, that person faces vehicular homicide charges.

The striking vehicle is described by police as a dark older model 1998-2008 Saab with front passenger side fender damage, a flat front passenger side tire; the passenger side view mirror housing should be black and have significant scuffing at the outer edge, and the passenger side edge of the front windshield may be damaged.
