Students Taken To Hospital After Becoming Lightheaded On Field Trip

LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. (CBS) -- A field trip did not go as planned for some local middle school students.

Police say sixth grade students from William Penn Middle School were on a field trip to a Trenton Thunder baseball game when two students started to feel lightheaded.

They were taken to Capital Health in Trenton for treatment.

Authorities say on the bus ride home, 12 more students started having the same symptoms.

Nine girls and three boys were treated at the school by EMS.

Eyewitness News spoke with the mother of one of the sick students and she said her daughter started feeling ill at the game.

"Our weather has changed from like late fall to summer overnight and I think possibly, the buses weren't prepared," said Lower Makefield Supervisor Judi Reiss. She commended the school district for responding so quickly.

Police say everyone is in good condition and expected to be okay.

Officials at the Pennsbury School District issued a statement to Eyewitness News, encouraging parents to make sure that their kids hydrate as much as possible, especially now that we are closer to summer.
