Horse Hit With Paintballs, Abandoned In Lancaster County Gets New Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 20-year-old abused horse, who was shot dozens of times at close range with paintballs in Lancaster County in March, will now get to spend the rest of her life being treated like a star on a farm in New Jersey.

The pastel colored paintball marks are gone and Lily the white horse is gaining weight as she recovers. One of her eyes had to be removed by veterinarians at Penn Vet's New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Chester County as result of her abuse.

Lily will soon be going to her new home. She has been adopted by former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart and his wife, Tracey. The couple own a farm Middletown, New Jersey, where they are planning to open an animal sanctuary.

"She is just the sweetest, sweetest horse that I've ever met, and so we are really excited and she will have a beautiful life," Tracey told reporters. "While she has been here she has made a friend who is also half blind, so we are also adopting her. Her name is Anita."

An East Providence, Rhode Island man has been convicted in Lancaster County involving the abuse of Lily. He is charged with animal cruelty and related offenses.
