TSA Precheck Enrollment Has Taken Off

by Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As the TSA security lines continue to snake for hours in some U.S. airports, the number of people trying to avoid the hassle has doubled.

TSA Precheck enrollment has doubled in the past month according to a spokesman who says at some centers, you have to wait up to three weeks for an appointment.

That precheck gets you through security lines more quickly, and there's no need to remove shoes, laptops, belts or jackets.

Bill Wilson of Texas got a taste and liked it.

"It's shown up on my ticket when I've gone through on my last trip. I didn't have to stay in quite the line that I did previously, but you still had to go through the usual metal detection, but it was fine," said Wilson.

You need to apply, get fingerprinted and show proof of citizenship, the cost is $85 for a 5-year period.
