Trump Calls Christie Fundraiser A Success

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has paid off all of his campaign debt from a failed presidential bid with proceeds of a fundraiser.

Trump said Thursday at the $200-per-person fundraiser at the National Guard Armory in Lawrenceville that Christie was a "great guy" and a "great governor."

Organizers estimate about 1,000 people, dozens wearing "Make America Great Again" caps and waving Trump banners, attended the fundraiser.

Trump and Christie also attended a smaller event that went for $25,000 a ticket, with proceeds going to the state Republican Party to help retire debt the party took on to respond to subpoenas from the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal.

At least 100 protesters set up near the armory. One carried a sign that read "Don't Be Duped by Donald."
