Trump Helps Out Christie With New Jersey Appearance

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (CBS) - Presumptive GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump made two campaign stops in New Jersey Thursday.

One was a private fundraiser for the Republican State Committee. The other, a $200-a-head event just outside Trenton to help Governor Chris Christie retire outstanding debt from his unsuccessful Presidential campaign.

There were no surprises as Trump addressed more than 1,000 people at the local National Guard Armory. He referred to Christie a couple of times, once to joke about this event:

"Chris paid off his entire campaign debt tonight. Right? His entire debt. And Chris, you can't even give them a table and a seat? That's terrible."

As to why Christie turned to Trump after his own bid fell far short, he says that followed a long talk with his wife about what to do. Bottom line...

"We never, ever make a mistake by standing with your friend. And Donald Trump is my friend."

Outside, over 100 people protested Trump's appearance, many of them wearing Clinton or Sanders campaign material.
