100 Local Businesses Help Raise Money For Homeless Pets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia's homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals is holding a fundraiser today. People can help by patronizing one of 100 area businesses participating in the 2nd Annual Philly Loves PAWS Day.

"We have bar and restaurants of course, but also clothing boutiques and nail salons and hair salons and tattoo parlors and yoga studios, pet supply stores, you name it there is truly something for everyone," said Melissa Levy, Executive Director of PAWs or the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society.

She says 10 percent of what you spend from participating businesses will go to PAWS for a variety of programs.

"Rescuing animals from shelters where they are in danger of being killed... providing them with safe housing, all the medical care that they need and all of the socialization and just safety that they need while they are waiting to be placed in their adoptive homes -- it also goes to help our low-costs clinic."
