Philadelphia Conference Spotlights Eating Well For Less

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A conference focusing on food and health without breaking the bank was held at the Free Library of Philadelphia Thursday.

Suzanna Urminska with the Culinary Literacy Center says the second annual Good Food For All Conference brings a number of people together…

"Who are SNAP eligible, hunger fighters, food educators and advocates for food access so that we can all share resources and knowledge about how to eat well on a budget."

Farmer Karen Washington was the keynote speaker. She explains there's a power dynamic to food:

"If you don't have food, it's hunger and poverty. If you eat the wrong food, it's usually diet related diseases."

She adds you have power THROUGH food too:

"The power of growing their food, the power of knowing where their food comes from and the power to make sure that they're eating the right food."

As for recipes, she says one of her favorite resources…senior citizens.
