Philadelphia Police Release Surveillance Video Of Man Wanted For Attempted Rape

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police need the public's help as they try to locate a man wanted for an attempted rape that occurred on Wednesday, April 20. The victim, a 19-year-old female, fought back and the suspect fled.

Now, the police are releasing surveillance video is hopes that it will help in their investigation.

Police say that the victim was walking on the 1300 block of Wharton Street around 1:30 a.m. She was approached from behind by the suspect who police say forced her to the ground. Officials say he also forced the top of the victims's dress down, exposing her breasts.

Authorities say that the victim fought back and maced the suspect in the face. He fled heading north on the 1200 block of South Clarion Street.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, around 37-years-old. They added that he is 5'7", 225 pounds with a medium build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Officials are urging anyone with information on the suspect to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251/52 or call 911.
