Chris Coste: Carson Wentz Is A 'Chase Utley Kind Of Guy'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is looking to become the second Philadelphia sports champion from Fargo, North Dakota. We would never forget about former Phillies backup catcher Chris Coste, who became the first player from Division III college baseball's MIAC to win a World Series in 2008.

Coste, who is now coaching baseball at Concordia College in Minnesota (on the border of North Dakota), has followed Wentz throughout his career.

"He's gonna play hard," Coste told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show of Wentz on Tuesday. "If he breaks his hand, believe me, he's gonna lobby to stay in the game. He's a Chase Utley kind of guy, which is about the highest endorsement -- when I talk to my current players, Chase Utley and Hunter Pence are the two guys that I bring up the most. Chase Utley, certainly the most. I would say that Carson Wentz has got that Chase Utley take-a-guy-out-at-second-base type mentality.

"If there's a guy who can make it, it's a guy like Carson Wentz who is resilient, strong-minded, and plays quarterback -- the toughest position in all of sports, the most valuable position in all of sports."

While many people assume North Dakota and Philadelphia are incredibly different towns, Coste clarified the misconception.

"Where I live it's a community of about 225,000 people," Coste said. "So we're not dirt roads, covered wagons, one of those towns where it's just church...It's very similar to say Cherry Hill [New Jersey]. In fact, for a year and a half when I was with the Phillies I did live in Cherry Hill and then one year Deptford, so it's very similar to that."
