Police Hope Surveillance Video Will Help ID Gunman In Deadly Cedarbrook Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a murder Sunday in the Cedarbrook section of the city.

Police Homicide Captain James Clark says 21-year-old Alex Cherry was talking to a staff member for a political candidate Sunday afternoon, when an unknown gunman appeared and shot him in the head once. Clark says the gunman then stood over Cherry's body and shot him several more times.

"Several hours later, we had another shooting in the 8000 block of Temple Road, which is a couple blocks away. Right now the only correlation we know for sure is that both of the decedents are friends. They both live in the area."

In the second shooting, an 18 year-old boy was shot and killed. Clark says police have some surveillance video from the first shooting, and detectives are examining that now.

Clark says it appears there was an ongoing dispute between two groups of young men. He says both of the victims were part of a group from the Mount Airy section of the city.
