Police: Officers Shot 17-Year-Old Male, Recover Replica Handgun After Incident

WILMINGTON, De. (CBS) -- Wilmington police responded to a call of a man with a gun in the area of 2nd and N. King Streets on Thursday around 6:44 p.m.

Officers observed the suspect and were in full police uniform as they attempted to stop the pedestrian.

The suspect fled and police say the officers confronted the suspect on the 330 block of W. 3rd Street. Officials say the suspect was shot by one of the officers.

The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old male and was shot in the right knee. Officers immediately performed first aid and the suspect was transported by emergency response personnel to Christiana Hospital in good condition.

Authorities say police found a replica handgun from the suspect on the scene. An investigation is active at this time.
