Motorcyclist Struck And Killed In Port Richmond Hit-Run

By Justin Finch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The search is on for a hit-and-run driver.

Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed after he was dragged 200 feet in Port Richmond.

Police are now looking for a Pontiac SUV driver who struck a man, dragged him and left him for dead.

Authorities have found the striking vehicle, but the search continues for the driver.

The accident happened around 9:30 Wednesday night. Police responded to the call for a hit-and-run with injuries at Aramingo and Lehigh.

Police found the 35-year-old man unconscious with several injuries. He later died at Hahnemann Hospital.

Eyewitnesses told police the victim was riding a motor scooter and they saw a Pontiac Aztec SUV going south on Aramingo then turn right onto Lehigh. Police say that is when the Pontiac allegedly hit the man, knocking him from his motor scooter.

Police say the driver then dragged the victim some 200 feet.

Authorities say the Pontiac with New York state tags was found a Cedar and Madison, but no signs of the driver.

The Accident Investigation Division is working the case and police are reminding drivers to remain at crash scenes whether there are injuries or not.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says, "We're certain that the driver of the striking vehicle realized what they did. The fact you didn't render any aid and drove from the scene after causing this fatal auto accident, now you're looking at some serious charges."

There are indications that police have an idea who the driver is and where they may possibly live.

Police have not identified the victim.
