Food Truck Hunt: No. 17
SUGAR PHILLY
38th and Walnut
The motto on their website spells it out: "Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Coincidence? I think not!" Yep, that's what you're here for, some midday sweets to ease the tension of the work day.
I can't speak to how stressed you may be. But the goodness that's being sold at this patisserie on wheels is certain to help. They've got delights like crème fraiche cheesecake, crème brulee and mango rice pudding. All affordable, ready to go, and too delicious to share with your friends.
We got a bag of three macaroons ($1.50 each), silver-dollar sized sandwiches of two soft cookies on the outside and inventive flavors in the middle. The roasted pineapple macaroon was tangy and sweet. The chocolate ganache reminded us of the days Mom let us spoon frosting from the mixing bowl. And the red wine caramel was our favorite – crispy and flaky shell with a hint of Burgundy, all surrounding a ribbon of caramel cream.
High-class, high-end stuff – but damned affordable and served from a truck sitting on 38th, between Walnut and Sansom. Try one of these desserts. You'll definitely feel less stressed.
