IRS Unveils New Way To Pay Taxes... At 7-Eleven

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tax Deadline Day is approaching and the IRS unveiled a new way to pay... and you can get a Slurpee at the same time.

Paying your taxes at a 7-Eleven, who would have thought? Not Tom, who was waiting for the bus this morning in Center City.

"I haven't heard anything of it, about this since right now with you saying it to me."

The IRS announcing this payment option yesterday in an effort to reach those who don't have a bank account or credit card. But you'll need an email address.

You go to IRS.gov's Payments page. There's a link to connect you to an online payment company that partners with the IRS. Put in your info and in a few days, you'll get a code to print or have on a smartphone, which you can bring to a 7-Eleven.

The cashier can then scan the code and you pay your bill and get a receipt.

There is a $3.99 fee and this option is available in 34 states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
