Philadelphia Student Musicians Learning To Rock!

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Local student musicians are gaining confidence and learning teamwork through rock and roll.

At Philadelphia's School of Rock, there's healthy peer pressure. Dante Cimino, a director of a Queen tribute show later this month, says they want the shows to be as memorable as possible for the audience

"They want to be awesome. They don't want to be the kid that isn't awesome."

General Manager Jace Miller says the school is about collaborative learning:

"The idea is to have them perform in a group and be able to go out and get in front of people and learn how to work together."

The school has taught 17-year-old Julissa Hill, a vocalist and keyboard player, how to sing with others.

"It kind of lets you know that there's like, a kindred spirit," she says.

And 16-year-old guitarist Ric Haas says he gained confidence:

"I used to be like, very tense and very shy. I still kind of am shy, but I was kind of like very nervous to do my first lesson."

Now, his guitar playing would make Brian May proud.
