Organization Representing Philly Taxi Drivers Dispels Rumors Of DNC Boycott
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As taxi drivers call for regulation of ride sharing services, an organization representing more than 1,000 cabbies in Philadelphia is dispelling rumors that they'll strike or boycott the Democratic National Convention this summer if lawmakers don't create a level playing field.
Ronald Blount is President of the Taxi Workers Alliance of Pennsylvania. The alliance represents 1,200 of the 4,000 taxi drivers in Philadelphia.
He says medallion owners made the comments that drivers will boycott or strike during the DNC, something he says is not true:
"Well they are like roaches when you put the lights on when we approached them about this issue, they all ran and started scattering all over the place. So they had no right to make those comments. It's not true, the drivers have not voted. We are a democratic organization everything we do we vote. We are working"
Meanwhile, taxi drivers want law makers in Harrisburg to regulate UberX and Lyft.
