Hackers Bank On Typing Mistakes By Typosquatting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Have you ever been typing in a website an accidentally typed a wrong letter? For example, you type "Goggle" or "Metflix."

Experts say that could actually put you at risk.

It's called 'typosquatting' and there are hackers who are banking on mistakes.

They reportedly buy websites with similar names to very popular ones, and when you go to them it may infect your computer.

Tech expert Michael Garfield says, "It could start uploading all of your person information, all your contacts, all your emails, financial information, pictures, videos, download malicious software. These companies are out to take that mistyped name, sell it to the actual company whose name is very close for a lot of money."

Experts say if you do this, immediately close your browser and make sure you have security software.
