Eagles Continue QB Workouts With Jeffrey Lurie In Attendance, Per Report
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Goff, Hogan, Wentz, Lynch. Oh my.
If the Philadelphia Eagles are not planning on taking a quarterback in the first round this year, they're doing a prodigious job in deception. Two days after privately working out Cal QB Jared Goff and just one day after seeing Stanford QB Kevin Hogan, the Eagles will reportedly workout top QB prospect Carson Wentz of North Dakota State on Wednesday and Memphis' Paxton Lynch on Thursday.
Interestingly, owner Jeffrey Lurie -- according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport -- is accompanying new head coach Doug Pederson and personnel czar Howie Roseman on the trips to workout these top quarterbacks.
After firing Chip Kelly this past December, there is immense pressure on Lurie -- who is reportedly involved in personnel -- and company in Philadelphia. Furthermore, the Eagles have not drafted a QB in the first-round since they selected Donovan McNabb second overall in 1999, the last time the franchise had sustained success. That year, under head coach Andy Reid, Lurie and the Eagles ironically brought in Pederson to be the backup QB and "groom" McNabb.
This offseason the Eagles have given $36 million guaranteed to quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel, collectively. Daniel, 29, served as a backup to Alex Smith in Kansas City under Reid and Pederson, the Chiefs' ex-QB's coach.
Wentz and Goff -- in that order -- are viewed as the top-two QB prospects in this year's draft, with Lynch being a slight drop off. Hogan, considered to have tremendous upside, is projected to be a late-round pick according to CBSSports.com.
Thanks to a trade with the Miami Dolphins -- Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and pick No. 13 for pick No. 8 -- the Eagles now have a top-10 selection for the first time since 2013 (Lane Johnson, No. 4 overall) and just the second time since 2000 (Corey Simon, No. 6 overall).

The Tennessee Titans currently own the No. 1 overall pick, but they do not need a quarterback (see: Mariota, Marcus). Many think the Eagles' trade possibilities may be limited because they do not own a second round pick.

NFL analyst Mike Mayock has been raving about Wentz's ability, comparing his athleticism to Andrew Luck.
