Tacos Don Memo
TACOS DON MEMO
38th north of Spruce
It's an undersized stand, hidden among the huge trucks around Penn, but Tacos Don Memo is worth searching for. The two friendly guys who run it offer a fine menu of Mexican food. Nothing on the menu cost more than $9, and it's all good enough that it would cost you double at any sit-down restaurant.
We enjoyed the aluminum foil-wrapped sort-shell tacos ($2.50 each, $7 for three). We sampled a few varieties, but we most enjoyed the seasoned pork carnitas. Say yes to the optional spicy sauce. They even come with little fresh lime wedges to squirt on top.
The $7 burrito was also a good time. It's packed with Mexican rice, avocado, cilantro, onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese, beans and sour cream. Dress down, because chances are, half will end up on your shirt.
One other thing: Tacos Don Memo offers up my favorite Mexican soda, Jarritos (with real sugar, not corn syrup). Assuming you don't have a cold cerveza, there's wrong with a bottle of pineapple soda with your Mexican food.
