Upper Darby Woman Looking For Homes For Unwanted Birds

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Unwanted parrots often times find their was into rescues this time of year because their owners didn't know what they were getting into.

When a young parrot becomes hormonal, somewhere around five-to-ten years old, screeching and biting goes along with it.

"Males become a little bit more aggressive than the females. A lot of people just don't want to deal with it and people at the store just don't give the people the information that they need," says Margaret Oulai of Upper Darby, founder of the Jojo The Grey Adoption And Rescue Center For Birds Inc.

She says the rescue is very busy now, since Spring time is when hormones kick in.

Sometimes, Polly has a potty mouth an needs some extra attention to be made more adoptable.

"We have quite a few that came in like that and we had to re-train them. Some people think it's really funny, and it's not," Oulai said of the foul-mouthed birds.
