Vehicle Crashes Into Community Center In Camden County

LAWNSIDE, NJ (CBS) -- Crews rushed to the scene after a vehicle crashed into a community center in Lawnside, New Jersey.

Chopper 3 was over the accident at the Wayne Bryant Community Center on the 300 block of East Charleston Avenue in Camden County.

Authorities say four people were trapped inside of the vehicle -- an elderly man and three elderly women.

There was a funeral that took place at the center earlier in the day, then some people were having a reception. Eyewitness News is told that the reception was taking place around 2:00 p.m. when the vehicle drove into the side of the building.

Emergency crews were on the scene within minutes, but no one was seriously hurt.

The Lawnside Fire Chief, Mark Jay, was one of the first on the scene. He noted that the first step was to remove doors to get the driver out of the vehicle.

"We had to pull her across to the other side of the vehicle to get her out," he said of the driver. "We pulled the vehicle out of the building to get the other occupants out who were trapped."

Two people suffered minor injuries and area residents told Eyewitness News that the center is a popular spot in the area that has a lot of different uses.
