Police: Suspect Shot After Pointing Gun At Police

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police say a man is in critical condition after being shot by an officer during a chase in North Philadelphia last night.

Authorities say a pair of plainclothes officers sitting in an unmarked vehicle on North 15th Street spotted a 22-year old man who was wanted in connection with a previous shooting around 6:30 p.m.

When the officers identified themselves as cops, the suspect ran through a nearby lot and pulled a gun from his waistband. Police say the suspect turned with the gun pointed towards the officers, and one of the cops fired 3-shots - hitting the suspect in the lower back and both legs.

The suspect fell to the ground and dropped his gun - a .45-caliber semi-automatic Glock Model 30 which was taken for evidence. The suspect was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, but no one else was injured.

The incident is being reviewed by Internal Affairs and the District Attorney's office.
