Boardwalk Opens After Reconstruction Project In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, N.J., (CBS) -- It's easier now to stroll along the Ocean City boardwalk.
An off season construction project is done and Ocean City spokesman Doug Bergen says the boardwalk and substructure between Plaza Place and 8th street have been replaced at a cost of $1.9 million.
"The boardwalk is made of southern yellow pine which is the traditional material so it will look and feel just like the boardwalk always has, however they're trying a new board that's three inches thick about twice as thick and in the first two phases it's really proven to hold up a lot better," said Bergen.
This is a five-phase project replacing seven blocks of boardwalk. Work is done during the beach town's off season and will resume in October.
