Officer Shot During Stolen Vehicle Chase In Chester

CHESTER, PA (CBS) -- An officer was shot late Saturday afternoon during a stolen vehicle chase in Chester. According to police, as authorities approached the suspected stolen vehicle shots were fired from the vehicle, at that time police exchanged gunfire. The officer was identified as Alan Davis, a 25 year veteran of the force. The officer was taken to Crozer Chester Hospital, the officer was placed in stable condition.

Police say this happened around 4:00 p.m. in the area of Parker Street and Union Street.

Police say three suspects were in the vehicle. One of them is confirmed dead, the other is injured and being treated, the third suspect is in police custody uninjured.

Chief James Nolan said it's a sad situation for all parties involved.

"It's an upsetting situation, it's unfortunate on both ends. There is nothing good about this," he said. "Unfortunately we have a situation where someone's actions caused a terrible incident."

A large crowd gathered near the scene while police collected evidence. There was a scuffle between cops and some of those on-lookers when the body was removed by the medical examiner. Police used pepper spray and two people were taken away in handcuffs.
