Another Year, Another NCAA Tourney For Holy Family Women's Hoops

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In what should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Holy Family University women's basketball team is headed to the Division II NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers have now made the tourney field a remarkable 12 times in the last 13 years. They are the #5 seed in the East and they will open things up on Friday night up in Waltham, Massachusetts against the #4 seed Queens College.

"I'm really pleased," Holy Family head coach Mark Miller tells KYW Newsradio. "Our kids have done a great job, they've worked hard all year and to have an opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament is always a dream for us, players and coaches. So for our kids to have this opportunity again is outstanding and we're looking forward to it."

The Tigers will bring a 22-8 record into the tournament. They earned an at-large berth after falling in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament to another NCAA Tournament team, Bloomfield.

Holy Family is incredibly balanced with six players averaging between 9.4 and 12.8 points per game. Senior guard Erin Fenningham leads the way with that 12.8 average. Junior forward Abigail Iannotti averages 10.8 points and a team high 9.7 rebounds a night.

Miller talks about the keys to success for his squad.

"We've got to play hard," Miller says. "We've got to defend, rebound and don't turn it over. We feel, if we do those four things night in and night out, we have a chance every night to be successful."

Holy Family and Queens met during the regular season. The Tigers losing way back on November 15th, 76-69. It was the second game of the season for both teams.

"Their team's different, our team's different," Miller says. "Probably both teams are playing a heck of a lot better now, late in the year, than we were in November.

"We know we were in that game," Miller adds. "A game probably that we let get away at the end. But we like where we are and we just got to come in and do what we do and play hard and compete and good things will happen."

Holy Family and Queens will tip-off at 8:30 on Friday night.
