Thief In Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester Counties Sentenced To Prison

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (CBS) -- A lengthy prison sentence for the man who prosecutors say was the ringleader of band of thieves who not only broke into foreclosed or vacant homes and stole copper pipes, but then also lit some of the homes on fire.

37-year-old Kevin Colosimo is sentenced to 8.5-to-17 years in prison for his part in the thefts in Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties. Montgomery County Judge William Furber telling Colosimo, "In your present state, you are a menace, a danger to society."

In a tearful allocation, Colosimo asked the judge for help. Colosimo's attorney, Justin Boehret says Colosimo has turned to drugs and alcohol to self medicated mental health issues, asking the judge to recommend a prison with treatment programs.

"He wants to get on the right path and I think he'll do that once he addresses the underlying issues," Boehret says.

But prosecutors label Colosimo as a lifetime criminal, a man who has seven children with four different women, saying he's unmarried, unemployed, and not motivated to even get a GED.
