West Philly Man Charged In Violent Robbery Of Auto Tag Business Owner
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have charged a West Philadelphia man in connection with the violent robbery and stabbing of the long-time owner of a well-known auto tag business in October.
Twenty-year-old Malcolm Pollard was charged with assault, robbery and related offenses in the October 8 attack on 62-year-old Patrick Spinosa, the owner of Southwest Auto Tag Service.
Pollard was jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
Investigators say Spinosa suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack.
Authorities say Pollard took Spinosa's wallet containing several hundred dollars, his cell phone, and iPad.
Spinosa's family shuttered the business following the robbery and an unrelated burglary days later.
Police also have charged Pollard with the October 7 robbery of a 7-Eleven store in the 2900 block of South 70th Street in the city's Eastwick section.
Investigators say Pollard was being held by York County authorities since the end of December in connection with fleeing the scene of a car accident and tried to elude officers during a subsequent police chase.
He was brought back to Philadelphia on Monday for questioning in connection with the October robberies.
