Memorial Services Set For Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Drew Lewis
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A memorial service has been set for former U.S. Transportation Secretary and Delaware Valley native Drew Lewis.
Lewis will be remembered in a public service at Central Schwenkfelder Church in Worcester, on Saturday, February 27th at 11am. Burial will be private.
Lewis died at the age of 84 last week from complications of pneumonia.
Lewis is a Norristown High School and Haverford College graduate who went on to become a self-made millionaire, and a key player in national, state, and local politics.
Lewis was Transportation Secretary under Ronald Reagan during the contentious 1981 air traffic controllers strike. He tried to negotiate a deal with union leaders, but it was rejected by membership. Thousands were fired after they walked off the job.
