J.P. Crawford Ranked No. 4 Prospect In MLB

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have a player among baseball's 2016 top five prospects: J.P. Crawford.

ESPN's Keith Law ranked his top 100 MLB prospects for the upcoming season and the 21-year-old shortstop came in at No. 4.

"A plus defender at short with high OBPs, speed and 35-40 doubles a year is an All-Star in our current offensive environment, and Crawford seems like he'll be ready to reach the majors and start providing that glovework by the end of this year," Law wrote of Crawford.

Law does not include players without rookie eligibility (yet to exceed 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in MLB and have not yet spent 45 days on an MLB active roster). Last year, Law ranked Kris Bryant (NL Rookie of the Year) No. 1 and Carlos Correa No. 3 (AL Rookie of the Year).

Four other Phillies' prospects made the list.

Right-handed pitcher Jake Thompson, 22, comes in at No. 63 on the list as a potential "mid-rotation" guy, while another Phillies right-hander -- Mark Appel, 24, -- ranks at No. 68. Outfielder Nick Williams, 22, ranks at No. 74 and 22-year-old catcher Jorge Alfaro is No. 82.

The No. 1 player on the list is Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Corey Seager, who has "MVP upside" according to Law.
