Weekend Box Office Report: 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Stays On Top
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The panda does it again.
The animated sequel, Kung Fu Panda 3, led the way at the box office, earning an estimated $21-million over the weekend for a second straight first-place finish.
The runner-up was Hail, Caesar!, the debuting comedy from the Coen Brothers, with George Clooney, Channing Tatum, and Scarlett Johansson. It took in $11-million.
Third and fourth were holdovers The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens at around $7-million each.
The next two spots belonged to the weekend's other new attractions:
The romantic drama, The Choice, earned $6-million, good for fifth place, while the horror hybrid, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, was sixth with $5-million.
Compared to last weekend and a year ago, industry-wide totals were low, which is usually the case on Super Bowl weekend.
