Montco Board Of Commissioners Issues Annual 'State Of The County' Report

NORRISTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- One of the most livable counties in the country is getting even better. That's the message from the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in their annual "state of the county" report.

Montgomery County Commissioners Chairman Josh Shapiro says four years and four commissioners later, the county is on solid financial footing.

"When we took office in 2012, county assets were literally crumbling under our feet and under our constituents feet and under the tires on their vehicles," said Shapiro.

Shapiro calls the current state of the county excellent, pointing for example, reducing county debt and increasing the percentage of the capital budget that is spent on county assets.

But Vice Chair Val Arkoosh says there is one thing they wish they could have changed from the past year, the impact on the county from the budget stalemate in Harrisburg.

"The entire budget exercise really diverted a lot of our senior staff's time," said Arkoosh.
