2 City Council Republican At-Large Members Go Different Ways On Parking Authority

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia City Council guarantees two seats to Republicans, to insure the party is represented despite being in the political minority. But it doesn't mean they always agree.

Councilmen Al Taubenberger and David Oh each had a resolution Thursday. Taubenberger's recognized the Parking Authority employee who came up with the marketing brand "Meter Up!" for the Authority's meter-paying app. Oh's called for hearings into Parking Authority expenses, to make sure the school district is getting its full share of meter revenue -- very different views of the Authority but, Oh says, not mutually exclusive.

"Listen I'm happy to praise the Parking Authority but it's our responsibility to understand what kind of money is coming out of the pockets of the citizens," said Oh.

Taubenberger, who sits on the Parking Authority Board also voted for Oh's resolution but was not thrilled about it.

"I am on those committees that will be hearing this matter so I look forward to the discourse and wanting to know further what his intent was there," said Taubenberger.
