Jordan McRae Scores D-League Record 61 Points In 87ers Win

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The most devoted Sixers fans know this name: Jordan McRae. Now some casual fans might know it also.

He's a flashy score-first wing player who has tried to crack the Sixers' roster for the last two seasons. McRae was a second round pick of the Spurs out of Tennesee and traded to the Sixers prior to last season.

He starred in the NBL (in Australia) and eventually came stateside to finish the season out with the Sixers' D-League affiliate the Delaware 87ers. McRae appeared in preseason games with the Sixers this season, but was unable to crack a crowded group of Sixers wings that included Robert Covington, Jerami Grant, Hollis Thompson, Nik Stauskas and JaKarr Sampson.

On Tuesday, McRae made his case to maybe get a second look by the Sixers who didn't feel like he was ready for NBA roster spot yet.

McRae scored 61 points on Tuesday as the 87ers defeated the Canton Charge, 130-123 in overtime. The 61 points, is a D-League scoring record.

The record previously belonged to Pierre Jackson, another player who tried to earn a spot on the Sixers roster this season. Jackson scored 58 points back in 2014.

McRae scored 17 in the first quarter, followed by eight in the second, 16 in the third and 14 in the fourth. He added six points in overtime.

It will be interesting to see if the performance will make the Sixers rethink cutting McRae.
