Efforts To Cleanup After The Storm Continue In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - From South Philadelphia to Germantown, post-storm cleanup is well underway.

For some, it's moving faster than others, but travel citywide is still slow going.

In Center City, the dump trucks and front end loaders were out clearing the snow-covered main roads, getting Broad Street ready for Monday's back to work rush. And unfortunately, that means towing cars parked in the way.

In South Philly, many roads are impassable. That is if they've seen a plow at All. Many side streets remain virtually untouched.

"Truthfully I've been shoveling since yesterday at 2 o'clock." Minister Robert Pettijohn tells CBS 3 Eyewitness News.

Services were cancelled at his church in Germantown. Churchgoers couldn't get into the parking lot.

Citywide side streets remain snow covered. On Seymour Street, neighbors have taken matters into their own hands:

"They told us they wouldn't have anyone here for snow removal until Tuesday or Wednesday."

Neighbors have picked up their shovels and have been digging out cars and the street since early Sunday morning:

"We can't get out I understand main streets need to be fix we need to get out too."

Blocks away cheering kids who just found out there's no school tomorrow have turned their plowed in street into a Playground.

So the kids are happy, but other residents need patience as far as plowing is concerned. Progress is expected as the day goes on Monday.

The PPA won't be charging at meters and kiosks Monday either.
