Ocean County Town Issues Voluntary Evacuation

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) --  Officials in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, have issued a voluntary evacuation for residents living east of Bayview Avenue along the Barnegat Bay and lagoons, Pelican Island, and South Seaside Park.
The evacuation was put into effect at 5 pm due to the potential for moderate to major flooding from elevated tides, high winds and a full moon.

For those who choose not to evacute, township authorities recommend they move their vehicles to the commuter parking lot in from of Central Regional Middle School.

No shelters are open at this time and officials urge residents who choose to evacuated, to make arrangements with family or friends and to make sure any exterior furniture and other items be tied down or put away.

Berkeley Township was one of many areas that was hard hit by Superstorm Sandy and residents there are still trying to recover from the storm's damage.
