Travel Woes As American Airlines Cancels All Philadelphia Flights, Amtrak Modifies Service

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Amtrak says there are no major cancellations, but it is possible it will change once the storm begins. In the meantime, Amtrak has modified some of its service in and out of Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, American Airlines has announced it has cancelled ALL inbound and outbound Philadelphia flights ahead of the storm.

The airline had already announced earlier Thursday that it was cancelling hundreds of flights up and down the east coast in advance of the winter storm.   They have updated their travel policy now to include 42 airports allowing customers whose travel plans are impacted to rebook without penalty. Email notifications have been sent to all impacted customers, informing them of the waiver.   Customers will also receive another communication if their flight is cancelled.  The airline is also working to ensure that aircraft do not remain overnight at airports that are forecast to receive this extreme winter weather.

Here is the latest information on the current plans for American's impacted hubs:

Charlotte NC Hub:  All flights canceled on Friday.  Operations are expected to resume on Saturday morning.

DCA/IAD/BWI:   Reduced operations Friday afternoon at all three airports.  All flights canceled on Saturday.   Operations resume around noon Sunday.

Philadelphia:   All flights will be cancelled Saturday, operations are expected to resume Sunday morning.

LGA/JFK/EWR: All American Eagle operations will be cancelled Saturday.  For jet service, American plans to cancel the operation after the late morning departures for the remainder of Saturday and will resume operations Sunday at all three New York-area airports.

Customers whose flights are cancelled can request a refund or reschedule their travel on www.aa.com by retrieving their reservation. Customers may also contact American Airlines reservations at +1-800-433-7300 in the U.S. or Canada.
