Twitter Outage Impacts Hundreds Of Millions Of Users Worldwide
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- How Tweet it is! Social media giant Twitter was back up and running Tuesday morning after a technical problem kept millions of users from accessing the site.
For the most part, it seemed that the twitter website and mobile apps had returned to full working service, but much of the early morning was like a trip back to 2005 before the micro-blogging/social media website was founded and began its rise to prominence.
While the site and its mobile apps were down, users who tried to log on were greeted with a message explaining that site developers were working to fix a technical issue and that they hoped to have the problem resolved soon, leaving many to keep their 140-character commentaries to themselves.
The biggest outages appeared to be in Japan, Europe and on the east coast of the United States.
The site began functioning normally again after several hours, allowing its users to complain about that morning commute, the cold weather, the need for a hot cup of coffee and, of course, the inability to access Twitter.
