Law Enforcement Officers Undergo Training In Montgomery County

By Paul Kurtz

GLENSIDE, Pa., (CBS) -- At Arcadia University this week, the Montgomery County Bomb Squad is teaching cops how to identify booby-trapped weapons.

Inside the campus crime scene house nothing is safe -- all kinds of items have been rigged to phony guns and bombs and stashed in drawers and closets, even along shelves.

"We're letting the individuals go through and find them then we'll kind of describe how they function so they'll have an understanding of what they're dealing with," said Deputy Andrew Noto with the County Bomb Squad.

Bomb Squad Commander Al Stewart says about two dozen officers from around the area are going through the program.

"A lot of the officers we have are SEPTA officers so they come across suspicious packages like that every day. But it was an eye opening experience for them to see what could be on the other end of that package."

Booby traps are among the many dangers law enforcement officers face when executing search warrants or going on a raid.
