White House Joins Snapchat In Effort To Reach Millions Of Users
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ahead of President Obama's final State of the Union address on Tuesday night, the White House has set up an official Snapchat account.
The first post from the official account was a shot of the Oval Office with a bowl of apples in front and the word "Snapchat!" posted over it.
Under the one word username WhiteHouse, the Obama administration will give Snapchat users a behind the scenes look at the State of the Union preparations, with footage you won't see elsewhere.
In a blog post, the White House says it hopes to be able to engage smartphone users between the ages of 13 and 34 "in new and creative ways" --more than 60 percent of them are on Snapchat.
Unlike most users, The White House doesn't want its posts to disappear. They can't, per government regulations that require administrations to keep thorough records.
The decision to join Snapchat is part of the president's digital strategy "to meet people where they are," embracing multiple media platforms to connect with young people.
The White House is active on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Periscope.
