COPS: Purse Of Counselor Assisting Student With Medical Emergency Stolen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating after the purse of a school counselor who was assisting with CPR on a student with a medical emergency was allegedly stolen.

"One of the counselors there was performing CPR on a student that was in need of some medical attention and then assisted that student into the medical rescue that responded to the location," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford. "It was during that time that the counselor sat her bag down to return and find that it's missing."

The alleged theft happened after dismissal Jan. 6. Ad Prima Charter School officials told Eyewitness News, the doors were left open because there was a parent teacher organization meeting. Officials say while they want parents to feel welcome, they may have to rethink certain security measures.

"This is one of those times where an individual took advantage of an opportunity," said Aldo Cavalli, the CEO of Ad Prima Charter School. "But, we are retraining everyone and making sure that everyone understands their obligation for a safe school environment."

One thing the school says they are relieved about is the security cameras. The cameras caught the alleged theft from the alleged suspect's entrance to his exit just minutes later.

Both school officials and police say it appears the alleged suspect may be familiar with the school or at least the neighborhood, so they're really hoping someone will be able to identify him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department. To submit a tip, call 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
